Prolific song writer, recording artiste and a performer Mojisola Serah Sowole aka “CocoIce” is a maverick in the rap music world. This rhymester delved into the rap game by rapping and miming songs of popular international rap star such as Heavy D, 2pac, Nas, Puff Daddy, Mase, Missy Elliot, Erick Sermon and Lil kim. She’s not only an ordinary rapper but a lyricist who knows how to play around with words, metaphors and idioms as she has been exhibited in her songs.
Getting encouraging remarks from people who see her miming to hit tunes, she decided to get serious and put pen to paper, writing her own rhymes and songs. Her foray into the music industry saw her hooking up with veteran producer OJB Jezreel’s owned production company, Point Beats and the ace producer hooked her up with Jo’Kaynie who produced her first single, “Get Nutty” featuring May D who’s now signed to P-Square’s Square Records. “Get Nutty” enjoyed heavy rotations on various radio stations and was a club favourite amongst top DJs across the country.
She has done a lot of freelance recording with producers /artiste such as Jo’Kaynie, OJB Jezreel, Xtac, Black Solo, Free style amongst many others.
In 2009, she met with the late legend DaGrin, with his assistance; CocoIce was able to hone her Yoruba rap skills thereby allowing her to express her lyrics in a way she feels comfortable with and at the same time embracing her much rich culture and dialect. This was like an added advantage for her because Nigerians now appreciate songs rendered in artistes’ mother tongue.
Fast forward to 2012. The highly talented rapper, who has been working so hard in the studio, cooking up hit songs, is ready to storm the Nigerian music scene with the official release of the song “If U Don’t Know” a remake of the late rap star, DaGrin’s hit song “Pon Pon Pon” which will be dropped in a few weeks time. According to her, she did the song to pay tribute to the late rap star and also to show people her versatility. The video for the song which is been produced by the young and talented director Aina Mathew aka Matt Max will surely blow your mind as it’s something totally different and fresh. After its release, the song will be available for downloads on all major music sites.
CocoIce who is currently under the management of ‘Biodun Caston-Dada owned MAGiC Entertainment is an eclectic fashionista. Aside her been a beautiful and stylish rap artiste, she also model part-time. She is also taking lessons in playing of musical instruments which she believe will help her in her performances and recordings as she is set to be more than a Rap star. According to her, “I’m out to set a high standard and separate myself from the band wagons. As a good artiste irrelevant of the genre of music you play, you must be able to play at least a musical instrument; this is why I’m working so hard by learning the guitar, keyboards and drums”, she stated.
CocoIce has shared the stage with top acts like Mode 9, Sage, Late Dagrin, Minjin, T. Code, etc.
